Raison d'ĂȘtre

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

What is the Catholic Motorcyclist about? Through Baptism, all Christians are called to communicate the Good News, and this calling is not optional. A few are called to preach, to use words and sacraments to proclaim Jesus's revelation. Most are called to preach not with words, but through actions; their everyday lives, through their families, work, and recreation.

The Catholic Motorcyclist is a layman. He loves his wife and son. He is a parishioner of St. Patrick Parish at Columbus, Ohio. He loves the Eucharist and the Holy Rosary. He writes computer programs for a bank. He rides a Buell Lightning.

The Catholic Motorcyclist will not impress you with his knowledge of theology. He studies the Catechism, but is no catechist. He reads the Bible, but is no biblical scholar. If asked about these things, he will refer you to his beloved Dominican Friars at St. Patrick's.

Yet The Catholic Motorcyclist yearns to guide people toward the Church, our Blessed Mother, the Saints, the deposit of faith leading us to Jesus Christ and through Him the Holy Spirit and our Father. To this end, The Catholic Motorcyclist organizes group motorcycle rides to holy places in Ohio. So far, he has lead small groups from Columbus to the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation at Cary, Ohio.

On May 2, 2009, the Catholic Motorcyclist will guide a group of riders from Columbus to a Festival of Praise at Franciscan University at Steubenville, a 300 mile round trip, including an overnight stay in the Steubenville area.

Email The Catholic Motorcyclist today for a ride map and other details about the Ride of Praise and Worship on Saturday, May 2, 2009!

Mission Statement
What is a Rosary Run?

Motorcyclists in Christ, it is my pleasure to announce our second Rosary Run of 2008 to The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation at Carey, Ohio.

What a truly holy place! As stated on the Basilica's web site, "Since 1875, countless pilgrims have journeyed to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio, to offer prayers of thanks and to confide their needs to the Mother of God as Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted."

Check out our first Rosary Run to the Basilica which was run on March 29, 2008!

Join us for Mass at St. Agatha Church on Northam Road in Upper Arlington at 8:30 AM, Saturday, May 3. After Mass, we will review group riding rules, pray for the riders, and go! Email to The Catholic Motorcyclist with your contact information to sign up...or just show up on the day of the ride!

To view the ride plan, visit Rosary Run 2008-A or email to The Catholic Motorcyclist for a PDF version of the plan.

Please visit the Basilica's web site at Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.

The Holy Father!

Mission Statement
What is a Rosary Run?

Dear Motorcyclists and Friends in Christ,

On a whim, a Helpful Friend and I visited Washington, D.C. in the hope of seeing Our Holy Father. We were not invited. We had no tickets. But sometimes when you make an effort, the Holy Spirit meets you half way!

The Holy Father was to depart the campus of Catholic University of America (CUA) on the afternoon of Thursday, April 17. Helpful Friend arranged the flight, and off we went to Baltimore. We took a Maryland Rapid transit (MARC) train from Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) to Union Station, Washington. From there we took the Metro to the Mall, visiting the World War II museum before proceeding to CUA. We noticed the "ADMITTANCE BY TICKET ONLY" signs from about 30 yards away. We were doomed. But just as we approached the information booth, two CUA students struggled toward us with a broken down golf cart. So, we helped them push the cart about 20 yards, out of the way of the gathering crowd. For our effort, we received two tickets!

It was a glorious day! As evidence, I submit the following photo, taken as the "Pope Mobile" drove by...
